Our Story

“It just kept getting bigger and bigger, but I was too embarrassed to tell my mom.”

Skyview Junior High cross-country runner Jaimeson Jones had a problem with a sensitive part of his body.  However, because of the 14-year-old’s embarrassment about the increasing pain and swelling in his left testicle, his disease had already spread by the time he was finally diagnosed with late-stage testicular cancer.  Jaimeson fought his way through aggressive treatment and multiple extensive surgeries, and his cancer went into remission at age 15.

While he was in remission, during high school, he confided in a friend the quote that starts this page.  Unfortunately, his reaction was a common one, and it ended up costing his life.  Tragically, after 4½ years of remission, Jaimeson relapsesd and, after even more-horrific treatment and more surgeries, he died in 2010 at age 20.

The vision of the Family Jewels Foundation

is that nobody dies of testicular cancer.

To do this, we use cheeky humor and an accessible approach to educate about testicular health, teach monthly self-examination, and eradicate the embarrassment that causes delays in diagnosis and treatment.

The Jaimeson Jones Memorial Scholarship

When Jaimeson realized that he was not going to survive his recurrence of testicular cancer, he asked that his college savings be given to his two younger sisters.  His generosity inspired our mission to give scholarships to students who have had a sibling with cancer.  Currently, we are providing four-year college scholarships to three graduates of the Northshore School District.

The Family Jewels PieK

The Family Jewels Pie-K was a fun annual trail race in memory of Jaimeson Jones, who loved to run at Saint Edward State Park and loved his Pie Day birthday (March 14, or 3.14).  After nine successful years, COVID caused the cancellation of our 10th annual run, to our endless sorrow.  We are so thankful for the annual participation of all of our volunteers, registrants, sponsors, and Board members!  To support us now, come to the Family Jewels Kenmore Ball Crawl every April, which is Testicular Cancer Awareness Month!
